What to Expect During and After Surgery

When everything is ready, you will be taken into the operating room where you will be attached to monitors that keep track of information like your heart rate, blood pressure, electrocardiogram (EKG) and others. Then the anesthetic will begin.

When the surgery is finished, the anesthetist will accompany you to the recovery room. During your recovery room stay you will be closely monitored. When you are sufficiently recovered from your anesthesia you will be discharged or returned to your hospital room. You should expect to stay in the recovery room for about 30-45 minutes.

If you are an outpatient, your anesthetist or one of the surgery nurses may call you at home to check on your progress.
