Overview of Anesthesia

Anesthesia is the loss of feeling or sensation with or without a loss of consciousness. To achieve this, anesthesia controls the body’s reactions to pain and stress while relieving the fear and anxiety associated with surgery ro childbirth.

Regional and general are the two main types of anesthesia. With a regional anesthetic, you are conscious, but the area of the body affected by your anesthesia is numb. In some situations, combinations of these anesthesia types are used.
